What the Seaside Fresh Logo Means
Our Seaside Fresh Lobster & Seafood Ltd. logo is more than just a design. It's a story that includes history, culture, and a deep love for the sea. Each part of the logo communicates a story of strength, history, and the deep connection between our people and the ocean.
The Mi'kmaq Nation has a long history, and every symbol carved into the lobster claw represents ideals passed down through the generations. These values include honouring the knowledge, sustainability, and stewardship that govern our work today.

The Tribal Symbols on the Claw
Inside the claw, you'll see exquisite crosshatch designs and pictographs that look like markings from the past and things from nature. These patterns are like the fishing nets and tools that our ancestors used. They show not only how to survive but also how to treat nature with respect.

The Fish in the Claw
Held in the claw is a single fish, stylized to represent many. This reflects both nature and tradition: the lobster’s instinct to have, and our Mi’kmaq ancestors’ way of fishing responsibly, with respect for balance and community.
It is our reminder and our promise — to continue harvesting the ocean’s gifts with care, not just for today, but for tomorrow.

The Broken Arrow of Peace
The claw features the broken arrow, a revered Mi'kmaq sign for peace. This symbol means a lot to our community because it reminds us of the severe fishing rights fights in the early 2000s, a critical time in our history.
We forged a new path through open communication, mutual respect, and unwavering determination. It was based on working together, making peace, and caring for our coastal waters.
The broken arrow is not simply a remembrance of previous fights but also a promise to keep the peace, work together, and live peacefully on the sea.

The Arrow's Sacred Colours
The colored lines adorning the arrow represent the four sacred Mi’kmaq colors, each deeply rooted in our worldview and the natural directions that guide us:
-
Red – South
The South is linked to warmth, vitality, and passion. Red signifies fire and the energy of youth and learning.
-
Yellow – East
Associated with the sunrise, the East symbolizes new beginnings, growth, and enlightenment. Yellow represents the sun and the energy of new life.
-
Black – West
The West is associated with water, reflection, and the spirit world. It represents the element of water and introspection, guiding individuals toward inner peace and understanding.
-
White – North
The North represents wisdom and clarity. White is connected to air and the spirit, symbolizing purity and the wisdom of elders.
The "Comb"—Spring's Arrival
One of the claw's emblems resembles a comb, representing springtime in Mi'kmaq culture. This time of year, the water wakes up. The first lobster traps are meticulously set, meaning it's a new year and harvest.
It's a season of new beginnings, hope, and the heartbeat of Seaside Fresh. It reminds us of the cycles of nature and our place in them.

Our Promise
The Seaside Fresh logo means more than just lobster and seafood. It reflects how deeply we care about what we do. We honor our cultural heritage, rooted in Mi’kmaq tradition and the knowledge passed down from our ancestors.
Our lobster and seafood harvests are done with care and respect, guided by sustainable practices that protect the ocean’s future and promote unity among communities. Respect for nature means being responsible stewards of the sea and preserving the environment for future generations.
